SUMMARY:Breaking Free: Strategies for Dealing with Attachment and Aversion
DESCRIPTION:Zoom Only\, October 2\, 9\, and 16\, 2025\, 7PM to 8:30 PM \nThis experiential course draws from the authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings of Lama Thubten Yeshe to help you recognize the subtle mechanisms of attachment and aversion that create suffering in daily life. \nThe Core Problem \nLama Yeshe likens ego and attachment to “two departments” working together in your mind. Your ego makes projections onto objects\, expecting them to be permanent and completely satisfying. Your attachment follows without hesitation\, getting completely stuck on these objects. The result is a constant swing between extremes: grasping acceptance of what you want and blind rejection of what you don’t want. Even when you get what you think you want\, the satisfaction never lasts because you’re relating to your mental projections rather than reality. \nThe Investigation \nThrough discussion and inquiry\, you’ll learn to observe these mental processes in real time. Rather than suppressing or analyzing attachment intellectually\, you’ll use your own experience as a laboratory—examining how attachment operates in relationships\, with material possessions\, and even with spiritual concepts. This isn’t about positive thinking or becoming detached from life. It’s about seeing clearly how your mind creates unnecessary suffering and learning to respond skillfully rather than react automatically. \nParticipants will begin to: \nRecognize attachment and aversion arising in real-time during meditation and daily activities\nDistinguish between genuine love and attachment-based “love” that seeks to take advantage\nPause and investigate before reacting to criticism\, conflict\, or challenging situations\nInvestigate where real satisfaction originates\nPractice finding contentment independent of changing circumstances \nFollowing the direct\, uncompromising teachings of Lama Yeshe we’ll look directly at your actual attachments and aversions rather than theoretical concepts. This class is open to all. \nCourse Reading \nOpen door\, open heart. Donations are always optional.
