Experience the Mystical Arts of Tibet in Santa Fe This July

From July 11 to 30, 2025, Santa Fe will host The Mystical Arts of Tibet, a rare and vibrant series of experiences conducted by the Tibetan Monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery. With support from Ira and Sylvia Seret, this cultural celebration offers an opportunity to witness sacred music, chants, and the intricate creation of a sand mandala—all part of Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Sacred Music & Chants (July 11–13)

As part of the 21st Annual International Folk Art Market at Santa Fe Railyard Park, visitors can attend live performances of sacred Tibetan music and chants:

  • Music & Chants for Clearing Obstacles (Dugsher Sengsum)
    July 11 at 8:30 AM
  • Music & Chants for Environmental Cleansing & Purification (Ten Thrue Yul Thrue)
    July 13 at 3:00 PM

Mandala Sand Painting – Live Exhibition (July 13–20)

At Thubten Norbu Ling Buddhist Center (130 Rabbit Road, Santa Fe, NM), the monks will create a traditional Avalokiteshvara mandala using millions of grains of colored sand over a seven-day period. The event includes:

  • Opening Ceremony
    • July 13 at Noon
  • Mandala Construction & Viewing:
    • July 13: 12:30–5:30 PM
    • July 14 & July 16–19: 2:00–5:30 PM
  • Closing Ceremony:
    • July 20 at Noon
  • Daily Meditation & Chanting:
    • July 13–14 and July 16–18: 5:30–6:00 PM
  • Guru Puja: July 19, 5:30–6:30 PM

Santa Fe City Blessing (July 27 at Noon)

A special city blessing will be held at Aspen Lookout in Hyde Park (Santa Fe National Forest), accessible on the road to the ski area.
